About the Role

Our client is looking for a competent, analytical and detail-oriented Accountant to support the Finance Department in managing the company’s financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, tax compliance and audit processes.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing management reports and financial statements, supporting budgeting and forecasting, conducting financial analysis, monitoring cash flow, coordinating audits and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records. The Accountant will also provide supervision and guidance to the Assistant Accountant and work closely with management to support effective financial decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and periodic financial forecasts.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly management reports for management review.
  • Monitor cash flow on an ongoing basis and prepare cash flow forecasts.
  • Conduct variance analysis by comparing actual financial results against approved budgets and forecasts for each depot.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Analyse financial information and provide insights on the company’s financial performance and position.
  • Analyse and report on variations in income statements and other key financial indicators.
  • Conduct regular reviews of financial records to ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance with accounting requirements.
  • Conduct internal audits and review financial processes and controls.
  • Coordinate annual external audits and provide the necessary financial records, schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Review audit findings and assist management in addressing identified issues and recommendations.
  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly and annual tax filings and ensure supporting documentation is maintained.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax requirements and company financial policies.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records and financial documentation.
  • Support management with financial analysis and information required for decision-making.
  • Supervise, guide and train the Assistant Accountant to ensure effective performance of accounting duties.
  • Review work performed by the Assistant Accountant and provide guidance where necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of financial information at all times.
  • Perform any other accounting and finance-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field.
  • Professional accounting qualification such as CIMA, ACCA or ZICA.
  • 2–3 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Paid-up membership with ZICA.
  • Good knowledge of accounting principles and relevant accounting standards.
  • Experience in preparing management reports and financial statements.
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and variance analysis.
  • Experience in internal and external audit processes.
  • Knowledge and experience in preparing tax filings and supporting tax compliance activities.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and accounting software/packages.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good time management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to supervise, train and work effectively with junior finance staff.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with management and other departments.
  • High level of confidentiality, integrity and ethical conduct.
  • Self-motivated, organised and able to take initiative.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a professional, friendly and courteous approach.

The incumbent will receive a competitive salary commensurate with experience.
