Position Overview Reporting to the Business Development Manager within the Commercial Services department, the Underwriting Officer will play a critical role in supporting the underwriting function. The successful candidate will assess risks, evaluate insurance quotations, prepare documentation, and manage policy transactions to ensure compliance with company policies, client needs, insurer terms, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities for Underwriting Officer Jobs in Lusaka Assess insurance risks and recommend suitable coverage options. Obtain and analyze quotations from insurers to present the best options to clients.
Process new business applications, renewals, endorsements, cancellations, and amendments efficiently. Prepare cover notes, certificates, policy schedules, and other related documentation.
Manage policy renewals and proactively follow up on outstanding client instructions. Reconcile premiums and documentation with insurers and the Finance department.
Maintain accurate underwriting files and records for compliance and audit purposes. Compile and submit periodic underwriting reports to management.
Perform additional duties as delegated by the supervisor. Qualifications and Experience Minimum Grade 12 Certificate.
Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field. Professional insurance qualification preferred, such as Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) certification or equivalent.
Membership with the Insurance Institute of Zambia is an advantage. Additional training or certification in underwriting, risk management, claims management, or insurance broking is beneficial.
