TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR TRANSLATOR

To translate the National Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Gender Based Violence (GBV) Prevention, Risk Mitigation and Response from English to Afan Oromo’

Introduction

In February 2023, the UNFPA led, Gender based Violence Area of Responsibility (GBV AOR) in Ethiopia, set out to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Women and Social Affairs (MOWSA), and GBV stakeholders, to develop a National Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Gender Based Violence (GBV) Response, Prevention and Risk Mitigation.

The National SOP for GBV , risk mitigation and response, describes minimum actions to be taken in line with a survivor-centered approach including definitions, guiding principles, clear procedures, and roles and responsibilities for each actor involved in GBV response, prevention, and risk mitigation in Ethiopia.

To make the document more accessible and understandable by all front-line staff providing services, MOWSA and the consurtium intend to translate the SOP document into Afan Oromo language. N4ED and Eurika are therefore recruiting a translator who has astrong understanding of GBVand SRH issues, and familiarity with technical terms in case management, Mental Health, and Psychosocial Support, justice, and legal affairs, as well as strong linguistic skills both in English and Afan Oromo.

Objective

• Translate the final version of the National GBV SOPs( (including all texts,Annexes, and technical Forms ) from English to Afan Oromo

Specific Tasks

• Translate thefull SOP document from English to Afan Oromo.

  • Ensure technical terms related to Case Management, MHPSS, and Legal/Justice affairs are translated using standard Oromifa terminology recognized in the GBV sector.

  • Ensure the tone remains survivor-centered and respectful.

Expected Deliverables

• An accurate, finalized Afan Oromo version of the National SOP in Word and PDF formats.
• Translatedimages, graphs, and process flowcharts.
• A glossary of key GBVterms used in the translation for future consistency.

Home-based with frequent communication with the consortium projectteam. No

office space or equipment willbe provided by N4ED and Eurika.

The translation consultant will be hired undera contract for two months. Scedual:-

• Week 1: glossary of key GBV terms used in the translation

• Week 4: 1stDraft Submission.

• Week 6: Reviewand Feedback.

• Week 8: Final Submission (Word & PDF).

Institutional Arrangement/Reporting Relationship

• The translator will work under the direct supervision of the N4ED/Eurika Project Officers and in close collaboration with the technical GBV team.
