Employment Information

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent.
  • B.Com Honours in Accounting or Postgraduate qualification; CA (SA) or equivalent designation,  a strong advantage.
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years practical accounting experience in a professional services environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of VAT Act, PAYE, UIF, SDL, CIPC requirements, BO registers, ROE, Dividends Tax and annual compliance obligations.
  • Prior supervisory or mentorship experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated mastery of monthly processing, VAT, payroll, PAYE and management accounts. 
  • Proficiency in at least one of: Xero, Pastel, Eureka. SARS e-Filing experience required.
  • Payroll system experience required.
  • Strong working knowledge of VAT Act, PAYE, UIF, SDL, CIPC requirements, BO registers, ROE, Dividends Tax and annual compliance obligations.
Key Responsibilities:
Report to the Monthly Accounts Manager/Key Account Manager:
 
Team Oversight & Review:
  • Review all work produced by Accountants and Clerks in the supervised team before it is submitted to clients or filed with SARS, CIPC or any other authority.
  • Monitor the team's workload and deadline pipeline daily.
  • Ensure that every Accountant in the team understands what is due, when it is due, and what the internal target is for each obligation.
  • Identify capability gaps in the team and address them through on-the-job coaching, paired working or escalation to management for formal training. 
Deadline Management:
  • Own the deadline calendar for the entire supervised portfolio - VAT, payroll, PAYE, management accounts, AFS handover, CIPC and all annual compliance obligations.
  • Ensure VAT returns for all supervised clients are completed and reviewed.
  • Ensure payroll submissions for all supervised clients are completed and reviewed.
  • Ensure PAYE (EMP201) is processed and payable by the last working day of each month.
  • Proactively flag any risk to an internal deadline to the Manager as soon as it is identified. 
Own Client Portfolio
  • Maintain a personal portfolio of monthly clients.
  • Team oversight, review and client relationship management. 
Client Service & Communication:
  • Handle client queries escalated from Accountants in the team - resolving matters that fall beyond the Accountant's technical scope or authority.
  • Maintain direct client relationships for the most complex or sensitive clients in the supervised portfolio.
Technical Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and review monthly management accounts, VAT returns, payroll reports and trial balances to the standard required for sign-off.
  • Co-ordinate the handover of complete, reconciled trial balances to the AFS department.
  • Liaise with the Personal Tax and Company Tax departments on all tax matters arising within the supervised portfolio.
  • Co-ordinate annual compliance obligations - AFS, annual tax, CIPC, BO, ROE, Dividends Tax and Donations Tax.
  • Escalate complex technical matters, advisory questions or unusual transactions to the Manager, Partner or relevant Specialist. 
Team Development:
  • Actively develop each Accountant in the team, through daily interaction, review feedback, and deliberate coaching on areas of weakness.
  • Support Accountants in preparing for their bi-annual Training & Development sessions.
  • Identify high-potential Accountants and raise their development with Management. 
Infinity Workflow Management - Personal Updates and Team Oversight:
  • Update personal workflow entries in Infinity in real time.
  • Monitor the team's Infinity entries as part of the daily supervision cycle.
  • Work directly with the Process Management team.
  • Use Infinity management reports to plan team workload, identify bottlenecks and report status to the Manager. 
Firm Policy Compliance
  • Model and enforce all firm service delivery policies within the team.
  • Actively participate in both bi-annual Training & Development sessions with a self-driven, prepared agenda.
  • Engage with the annual one-on-one with the Group CEO as an opportunity to raise personal development goals and career direction.
