Proton Electro-Cable Ltd, a prominent cable manufacturing company located in the Lusaka Multi Facility Economic Zone (MFEZ), Zambia, is currently recruiting for multiple machine operator jobs in Lusaka. We are seeking dedicated and qualified individuals to join our expanding team on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities or duties

The Stranding Machine Operator sets up and operates machines to twist or strand together multiple wires to form a conductor for electrical cables or wire rope .

  • Setup and Preparation: Set up the stranding machine by loading spools of wire of specified gauges into cradles or payoff positions. Select and install the appropriate dies and gears for the required direction of twist and speed .
  • Threading and Operation: Thread individual wires through machine guides, through the twisting head, and around the capstan. Wind the stranded product onto take-up spools . Start the machine and monitor its operation .
  • Process Control: Monitor the stranding process to ensure proper tension, uniform twisting, and consistent product quality. Operate and monitor semi-automatic or rigid stranding machines and associated take-up and payoff equipment .
  • Quality Inspection: Inspect the stranded cable or wire rope for defects, using precision measuring instruments like micrometers to verify size. Make samples for quality control checks .
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Perform routine maintenance such as cleaning, oiling, and lubricating machines . Detect and report machine malfunctions to supervisors. Perform minor repairs, such as butt-welding broken wire ends .
  • Material Handling: Load and unload spools with raw material and finished product. Use material handling equipment to move heavy reels .
  • Documentation: Complete job cards, wire log sheets, and other production documentation as required . Generate labels for finished product and apply them .

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

To be considered for these roles, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Possession of a Grade 12 School Certificate
  • Valid Machine Competency Certificate

Experience needed

  • Between 1 to 2 years of relevant work experience operating machinery
