Minimum requirements for the role:

  • Must have a B. Sc. (Hons) in Agronomy or related field crop qualification
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Agronomy, with at least 5 years' experience in the Seed and/or FMCG industry
  • Must have a proven track record influencing across functions
  • Ability to influence stakeholders without direct authority, supported by excellent communication and networking skills
  • Expert knowledge of grain production and storage quality drivers
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous and complex environments, with an agile mindset
  • Must have experience with commercial farmers
  • Experience in row crop production, with cereals being highly advantageous
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across cultures and within geographically dispersed teams
  • Strong team leadership and talent development capabilities
  • Must have experience with agri-technologies and data-enabled practices
  • Strong programme planning, tracking, and reporting skills
  • Digital proficiency with the ability to leverage data for informed decision-making
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Fluency in English (Read, Write, Speak)
  • Valid driver's licence, with the ability and willingness to travel up to 60% of the time

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Embedding a strong safety culture and ensuring full compliance with HSE standards and legislative requirements.
  • Implementing safety standards as prescribed in the Safety VPO Handbook.
  • Managing end-to-end seasonal delivery, including contracting (led by Procurement), seed planning, ordering and distribution, providing technical consultation to farmers, planting, crop monitoring, pre-harvest assessments, and harvest execution.
  • Aligning harvest plans with VOPs and Procurement regarding intake, logistics, payments, and farmer communications.
  • Escalating quality issues during harvest and coordinating permit allocation with R&D and VOPs.
  • Building farmer capability to improve yield and quality through best-practice agronomy and responsible sourcing.
  • Leading irrigation-focused agronomy interventions and driving continuous improvement across regions.
  • Supporting farmer events and facilitating knowledge transfer.
  • Collaborating with the Global Innovation team (breeding, technology, etc.) to implement best practices that drive quality and yield improvements.
  • Planning and allocating work, tracking delivery against plans, and leading mitigation initiatives.
  • Setting goals, managing performance, and developing team capability through SKAPs and training plans.
  • Operating effectively across geographically dispersed and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Contributing to budget planning and managing expenditure against approved budgets.
  • Providing input into budget development.
  • Formalising supplier agreements with Procurement and ensuring governance and compliance.
  • Building effective partnerships with Procurement, VOPs, R&D, Global Agronomy, government bodies, and suppliers.
  • Ensuring clear and consistent communication with all stakeholders.
  • Executing R&D trials each season and translating insights into scalable practices.
  • Delivering against sustainability targets, including water stewardship, soil health, and responsible sourcing.
  • Identifying and managing key production risks and implementing mitigation measures.
  • Reporting performance against targets to the Country Agri Manager in accordance with standard reporting routines.
