Job Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the company's accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and preparing timely financial reports in compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies. The role supervises daily accounting activities, supports budgeting and financial planning, ensures effective internal controls, and assists management by providing financial analysis and recommendations to support informed business decisions.

 

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Maintain and oversee the company's general ledger and ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded. 

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports in accordance with accounting standards. 

Review and approve journal entries, payment vouchers, invoices, and supporting documents to ensure accuracy and compliance. 

Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and bank reconciliation activities. 

Ensure timely preparation and submission of tax returns, including VAT, withholding tax, payroll tax, and other statutory obligations. 

Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and reconcile all balance sheet accounts. 

Monitor cash flow, expenditures, and financial performance, and provide recommendations to improve financial efficiency. 

Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans, and monitor actual performance against approved budgets. 

Maintain the fixed asset register and ensure proper recording of acquisitions, depreciation, transfers, and disposals. 

Develop, implement, and monitor internal financial controls to safeguard company assets and minimize financial risks. 

Coordinate and support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, reports, and required documentation. 

Analyze financial data, identify trends, and prepare financial analyses and reports for management decision-making. 

Ensure compliance with IFRS, Ethiopian tax laws, company policies, and other applicable financial regulations. 

Supervise and provide guidance, training, and technical support to junior accountants, cashiers, and accounting assistants. 

Coordinate with Procurement, HR, Operations, and other departments to ensure accurate financial recording and reporting. 

Recommend improvements to accounting systems, financial processes, and reporting procedures to enhance operational efficiency. 

Maintain proper filing and confidentiality of financial records and supporting documents. 

Perform any other finance and accounting duties assigned by the Finance Manager or senior management.
