Position Overview:

Heavy Duty Mechanic Instructor Jobs in Chongwe The Instructor will deliver both theoretical and practical training on heavy-duty machinery maintenance, preparing apprentices for demanding roles within the mining and heavy equipment sectors.

Reporting to the Head of School, this full-time position is based in Chongwe District, Lusaka Province. Key Responsibilities Deliver structured classroom and workshop training on heavy-duty equipment systems including engines, hydraulics, powertrain, steering, braking, and suspension.

Design and update comprehensive lesson plans covering topics such as Diesel Engines, Hydraulic Systems, Electrical and Electronic Systems, CANBUS, Diagnostics, Telematics, and Maintenance Management. Translate complex technical content into practical, industry-relevant training aligned with operational standards.

Conduct assessments, maintain compliance documentation, and support curriculum reviews and improvements. Guide trainees in diagnostics and troubleshooting using diagnostic software and measurement tools.

Support development of training laboratories and simulators, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. Coordinate with workplace mentors to facilitate on-the-job learning and validate apprentice logbooks.

Participate in apprentice progress meetings, moderation processes, audits, and accreditation reviews. Coach and mentor apprentices, supervising practical workshop training and evaluating competence against defined standards.

Work Environment Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:00 hours (excluding public holidays). Training workshops, laboratories, and occasional outdoor or industrial partner facilities.

Exposure to heavy equipment and outdoor fieldwork. Prolonged periods of standing and supervising trainees.

Qualifications and Experience Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Heavy Equipment Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or Mining Equipment Engineering. Diploma in Teaching Methodology.

Minimum of 6 years’ experience in heavy equipment maintenance. At least 1 year of instructional experience.

Registered member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ). Competencies and Certifications Strong knowledge of heavy-duty equipment systems.

Proven instructional, facilitation, coaching, and mentorship skills. Competency in assessment and evaluation of trainees.

Proficiency in Office 365 applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and virtual training platforms (Teams, Zoom). Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS).

Advantageous certifications include TEVETA Instructor Accreditation, Train-the-Trainer, Occupational Health & Safety, and Assessor Certification. What We Offer Competitive remuneration package.
