JOB DESCRIPTION – QUANTITY SURVEYOR

Quantity Surveyor

Project Manager / Contracts Manager

Job Purpose

To manage all financial and contractual aspects of construction projects, ensuring that costs are accurately estimated, controlled, and reported while delivering projects within budget and in accordance with contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate cost estimates, bills of quantities (BOQs), and tender documents.
  • Measure quantities from drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare project budgets and cost plans.
  • Monitor project costs and ensure expenditure remains within approved budgets.
  • Evaluate and certify subcontractor and supplier payment claims.
  • Prepare interim valuations, final accounts, and project cost reports.
  • Negotiate contracts and variations with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Identify and manage project risks relating to cost and contracts.
  • Maintain accurate records of project costs, contracts, and procurement.
  • Conduct site measurements and inspections as required.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, company policies, and applicable regulations.
  • Provide commercial advice to the project team and management.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Membership or eligibility for registration with the relevant professional body is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry.
  • Experience in commercial, industrial, and civil engineering projects is an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts and cost management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quantity surveying software.
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
  • Strong negotiation and contract administration skills.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Good communication and report-writing skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.

Working Conditions

  • Office-based with regular visits to construction sites.
  • May be required to travel to project locations as assigned.

  • Accuracy of cost estimates and BOQs.
  • Effective budget and cost control.
  • Timely preparation of payment certificates and reports.
  • Successful management of project variations and final accounts.
  • Compliance with contractual and company requirements.
  • Delivery of projects within approved budgets.
