About Zutari and the Over Headline Design Engineer Role Zutari is a management-owned firm known for delivering innovative engineering projects in transmission and distribution. We are seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer or Technologist to join our Transmission and Distribution Energy Unit.

This full-time position focuses on the design and implementation of substation primary plant systems ranging from 11 kV to 500 kV, including overhead line design. Candidates with experience in both utility and renewable energy projects across Africa are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities for Over Headline Design Engineer Jobs in Luangwa Design and develop transmission and distribution switching stations and substations (11 kV to 500 kV). Create substation primary plant layouts including Single Line Diagrams (SLD), General Arrangements (GA), earth grids, lighting, lightning protection, CCTV, and trench/conduit layouts.

Perform earthing design using CDEGS software, including soil modeling and detailed analysis. Develop lighting designs with Relux or Dialux, incorporating 3D CAD models.

Design lightning protection systems based on international standards and Electro Geometric Modelling. Conduct EMF, corona, noise, and radio frequency interference (RFI) calculations and modelling.

Calculate short circuit forces and perform underground cable design up to 500 kV using CDEGS and CYMCAP. Compile Bills of Materials (BOMs), technical reports, engineering calculations, and equipment specifications.

Interpret engineering standards and implement calculation formulas in Excel. Maintain strong knowledge of substation equipment and structures applicable to voltages up to 500 kV.

Contribute basic design expertise in CCTV, security, renewable energy, low voltage (LV), and secondary plant systems. Support project management activities, including scheduling with MS Projects.

Qualifications and Experience Required Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (B.Eng, B.Sc, or B.Tech) accredited by EIZ or ERB (Zambia) or equivalent South African qualification. Minimum of three years’ relevant experience in transmission and distribution projects.

Professional registration or active process of registration with relevant engineering bodies. Proficiency with engineering software including Excel, Word, MS Projects, CDEGS, CYMCAP, MATHCAD, and Relux or Dialux.

Basic skills in Microstation or AutoCAD. Experience in substation primary plant design and commissioning.
