We run a live OTC desk providing on-demand liquidity, foreign exchange, and settlement across fiat and stablecoin rails.
Our clients include money transfer operators (MTOs), payment service providers (PSPs), OTC desks, corporates, and importers that require fast, reliable cross-border settlement.
String is registered with FINTRAC as a Money Services Business (MSB) and is a registered Payment Service Provider (PSP) with the Bank of Canada.
The Role
As an OTC Sales Trader, your primary responsibility is to originate institutional payment and FX flow across Africa.
You’ll identify businesses with recurring demand for USD, USDT, USDC and local African currencies, win them as counterparties, quote live markets through our pricing engine, execute transactions, and grow long-term trading relationships.
You are expected to own the full commercial cycle—from sourcing opportunities and onboarding counterparties to pricing, execution, settlement coordination, and growing recurring flow.
What you’ll do
Originate Deal Flow
- Build relationships with businesses that regularly buy, sell or settle in USD, USDT, USDC and African currencies.
- Develop new business across MTOs, PSPs, OTC desks, fintechs, corporates, exporters, importers and institutional crypto participants.
- Prospect relentlessly through outbound outreach, referrals, networking and existing relationships.
- Own the complete relationship lifecycle—from first conversation through onboarding, first trade and long-term account growth.
- Increase wallet share by becoming your counterparties’ preferred liquidity partner.
Quote & Execute Trades
- Quote live prices using String’s proprietary
- Price transactions across USD/GHS/NGN and stablecoin pairs.
- Manage trades from indicative pricing through firm quote, execution, confirmation and settlement.
- Coordinate settlement across banking and mobile money rails.
- Ensure funding is confirmed before execution and escalate transactions that fall outside approved risk limits.
- Maintain disciplined spread management while delivering competitive execution.
Build the Liquidity Network
- Develop and maintain relationships with OTC desks, liquidity providers and institutional trading counterparties.
- Expand the network available to the desk to improve pricing, execution quality and capacity.
- Work closely with internal trading and operations teams to source liquidity when required.
Operate Within a Regulated Environment
- Ensure every counterparty completes onboarding and KYC before trading.
- Follow all compliance, AML and operational procedures without exception.
- Represent String professionally and accurately.
- Never compromise pricing discipline, settlement standards or compliance to win business.
What you’ll need
Must-haves
- Proven experience selling institutional FX, cross-border payments or stablecoin OTC liquidity.
- Existing relationships with businesses that regularly transact in USD, stablecoins or African currencies.
- Demonstrated ability to originate business independently.
- Strong understanding of OTC market structure, bid/offer mechanics, spreads, execution windows and liquidity.
- Excellent commercial judgement and negotiation skills.
- A resilient, hunter mentality with the persistence to build long-term client relationships.
Strong pluses
- Experience at an OTC desk, digital asset trading firm, treasury desk or FX brokerage.
- Existing relationships with OTC brokers, liquidity providers or institutional stablecoin users.
- Strong understanding of Ghanaian and/or Nigerian FX markets, banking infrastructure, mobile money and settlement rails.
- Experience executing high-value cross-border payment transactions.
How we’ll measure success
First 90 days. Counterparties onboarded, first tickets executed, and a qualified pipeline you can demonstrate.
6–12 months. A portfolio of active counterparties generating predictable recurring flow, growing net desk revenue through disciplined spread capture, an excellent execution and settlement record, and steadily increasing share of wallet across existing accounts.
Compensation
- Competitive base salary plus uncapped commission linked to net desk revenue. The compensation structure rewards long-term client relationships and recurring trading flow, with support during the onboarding period while you build your book.
