Contract Type: Indefinite based on performance and availability of funds.

Job purpose: The Medical Director will be a licensed medical doctor, with an active medical practicing license. He /She will be responsible for overall leadership of the Tihut Clinic operations and  clinical service delivery, providing comprehensive primary healthcare (PHC) services to patients presenting at the clinic in accordance with the national clinical standards and guidelines (i.e., diagnosis and management of common medical conditions, providing emergency stabilization, conducting minor procedures and ensuring appropriate patient referral to the next higher level when required). He /She will additionally support the Nurse and/or Health Officer in leading the Clinic’s community outreach component.

 

This role also particularly supports quality integrated service delivery including HIV services, maternal and child health, sexual and reproductive health, and non-communicable disease management. Effective use of health information systems, quality improvement initiatives, and engagement in initiatives to enhance the clinic’s revenue growth trajectory will be a critical role of the medical director, as the eventual goal of the clinic’s establishment is to attain self-sustainability with time.

Your contribution: Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Overall leadership for entire clinic team (nurses, laboratory staff, pharmacists, janitors, etc.,) leading to successful clinic operations. NOTE: The clinic will be registered under the Medical Director’s operating license.

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient care (adult and Pediatric) including consultation, physical examination, diagnosis and treatment of individual patients visiting the clinic

  • Manage and integrate MCH. SRH, & NCDs as well as other primary healthcare components in infectious and non-infectious fields, with comprehensive HIV services.

  • Manage and /or stabilize medical emergency cases coming into the clinic (including pre-and post-operative care) within the scope of the clinic, before referrals can be made as needed 

  • Prescribe and monitor patient response on medications (follow up care plans) per standards on rational use of pharmaceuticals and medical commodities.

  • Identify cases requiring advanced care and coordinate timely referrals and ensure appropriate documentation and follow-up of referred patients.

  • Perform minor surgical and medical procedures within the medium clinic capacity 

  • Learn and undertake usage of ultrasonography as a diagnostic support skill 

  • Coordinate with referral hospitals and diagnostic centers to ensure continuity of care.

  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records including patient history, physical examination, investigations, diagnosis, management plan in the patient card as well electronic medical records. 

  • Support patient-level data analysis to guide continuous quality improvement efforts, as well as efforts responsive to building community trust in the clinics’ brand as exemplified in increasing consumer market coverage.

  • Ensure services compliance with program quality standards, in line with developed Program’s SOPs, M&E plan, and financial management documents. 

  • Participate in clinical audits, case reviews, and lead the clinic quality improvement across a multi-disciplinary team 

  • Stay adherent to medical ethics, clinical standards, and regulatory guidelines, including engagement in continuous professional development (CPD) to maintain updated medical knowledge and skills. 

  • Guide his clinic team in commodity quantification forecasting, requisition (at PSI warehouse level &/or collaborate with supply chain actors at networked public sector facility level at woreda and sub city level), and procurement where applicable

  • Support mentorship and on-the-job training of junior clinical staff where appropriate.

  • Support and participate (when needed) in clinic’s community outreach initiatives aimed at health promotion screenings, and preventive care campaigns. 

  • Promote effective teamwork and collaboration within the clinic AND ensure timely, accurate clinical and programmatic reporting to PSI Ethiopia and at sub city level.

  • Represent the clinic at relevant stakeholder meetings, and any other duties as may be assigned by PSI Ethiopia as the employer
