Job Details

As a Patient Liable Debtors Clerk, you will be responsible for managing and recovering outstanding patient-liable accounts on behalf of medical practitioners. The role focuses on ensuring timely collections, reducing debtor days, and maintaining excellent relationships with patients and medical practices through a professional and compassionate approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, maintain, and review allocated patient-liable debtor books and age analyses to identify overdue accounts.
  • Follow up on outstanding accounts via telephone, email, SMS, and other approved communication channels.
  • Negotiate, implement, and monitor structured payment arrangements and plans with patients.
  • Maintain highly accurate, detailed documentation of all patient interactions and collection activities.
  • Escalate unresolved accounts and assist with preparing accounts for legal collection when necessary.
  • Contribute to achieving monthly collection targets and assist with month-end reporting and debtor reconciliations.
Requirements
  • Matric (Grade 12) certificate is essential.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in medical debtors collections, patient-liable collections, or a credit control environment.
  • Previous experience within the medical billing industry is highly advantageous.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with medical billing and practice management systems (e.g., Elixir Live, MedEDI, iHealth, Healthbridge, or Vericlaim).
  • A strong understanding of healthcare billing principles, patient liability, and medical aid processes.

Remuneration
R13 000 - R16 000, based on experience and qualifications.
