Job Details

A leading large-scale underground mining operation in Zambia requires a Mechanical Engineer to provide hands-on leadership across shaft and winder systems on a 3–4 month contract. The role focuses on improving reliability, availability, and maintenance performance in a high-output production environment, with a structured FIFO rotation of 3 weeks on / 1 week off.

Duties/Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee mechanical integrity of shaft and winder systems across multiple shafts
  • Drive reliability and availability improvements through practical engineering interventions
  • Optimise maintenance practices and support CMMS/SAP-based maintenance processes
  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting and technical leadership on site
  • Engage with site engineering teams to stabilise and improve operational performance
Requirements:
  • Mechanical Engineering qualification (or equivalent)
  • Strong background in mining or heavy industrial environments
  • Experience with maintenance systems (SAP or similar CMMS)
  • Comfortable with FIFO/site-based work (3:1 rotation)
  • Ability to operate in a short-term, high-impact contract environment
Education:
  • Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
  • Professional registration advantageous
