Mechanical Design Engineer – Underground Mining Machinery

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team responsible for the design and development of underground mining machinery. The successful candidate will be involved throughout the product lifecycle, from concept development and detailed design to testing, validation, production support, and continuous product improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical systems and components for underground mining equipment.
• Produce detailed 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, and assemblies.
• Perform engineering calculations, finite element analysis (FEA), and design validation.
• Design and integrate hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
• Select appropriate materials and components for durability, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Conduct design reviews and implement engineering change requests.
• Prepare technical documentation, including design reports, bills of materials, specifications, and engineering change notices.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing, commissioning, field service, and aftermarket teams.
• Participate in testing, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable mining industry standards, safety regulations, and company engineering procedures.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree (BEng/BSc/BTech) in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in mechanical design of underground mining machinery or heavy mobile equipment.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, or equivalent CAD software.
• Experience with FEA and engineering simulation tools such as ANSYS.
• Strong understanding of hydraulics, mechanical power transmission, and heavy equipment design.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, fabrication, welding, and assembly.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, hydraulic schematics, and technical specifications.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites and underground mining operations when required.
