Job Details

Job Purpose:

  • To learn and develop the skills required to produce technical drawings and 3D models for sheet metal components using SolidWorks.
  • This is an entry-level growth role for a mathematically inclined individual with strong spatial visualization skills, aimed at transitioning academic knowledge into real-world manufacturing design.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Learn SolidWorks: Receive training to develop 3D models and 2D drawings of sheet metal parts.
  • Assist Senior Staff: Support senior draughtsman with drawing revisions, detailing, and updates.
  • Interpret Drawings: Learn to translate engineering sketches and Matric EGD principles into digital CAD formats.
  • Learn Fabrication Basics: Develop an understanding of sheet metal design principles, including bend allowances and material types.
  • BOM Management: Assist in creating and maintaining basic Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Cross-Functional Learning: Spend time on the production floor to understand how drawings translate to physical products.
  • Maintain Standards: Follow company drafting standards and keep documentation organized.
Required Skills & Competencies:
  • Aptitude for Design: Strong foundational understanding of drawing principles, projections, and scales (from school EGD).
  • Numerical Skills: Excellent mathematical and analytical ability.
  • Tech Savvy: Basic computer literacy with a strong desire to master SolidWorks and CAD software.
  • Eagerness to Learn: Enthusiastic about manufacturing, open to feedback, and highly teachable.
  • Attention to Detail: Precision-oriented with a focus on accuracy in numbers and lines.
  • Work Ethic: Reliable, highly motivated, and willing to put in the hours to meet deadlines and finish jobs.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Matric Certificate (Grade 12): Essential.
  • Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD): Excellent marks/distinction achieved in Matric.
  • Mathematics: Strong results achieved in Core Mathematics.
  • Experience: No prior professional draughting experience is required; full training will be provided.
  • Advantageous: Any basic exposure to SolidWorks, personal CAD projects, or a relevant TVET college N-course certificate.
Working Conditions:
  • Office-Based: Structured desk environment with active, daily mentorship.
  • Factory Floor Exposure: Regular visits to the production floor to learn laser cutting, bending, and welding processes.
  • Fast-Paced: High-pressure environment with strict manufacturing timelines.
