These Off Crop contract positions are based at the Nakambala Estate and offer an excellent opportunity to contribute to quality assurance in the Manufacturing Department. Available Positions Engineering Quality Controller – Construction Fabrication (1 Position) Engineering Quality Controller – Refinery and Packing Station (1 Position) Engineering Quality Controller – Construction Fabrication Reporting to the Reliability Engineer, the successful candidate will oversee quality control in construction fabrication, ensuring all checks comply with established standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise quality control functions for factory construction and maintenance activities.
• Conduct quality checks on mechanical equipment plant-wide, including wear analysis and reliability recommendations.
• Enhance welding productivity by ensuring accurate fit-ups, proper welder usage, correct weld sizing, and effective weld station design.
• Manage documentation per the Quality Control Management Plan.
• Report findings to the Reliability Engineer, Engineering Manager, and Quality Control Team Lead.
• Coordinate with stakeholders and plant owners to support required works.
• Train and test artisans before and after the off crop period.
• Develop Welding Procedure Specifications for construction purposes.
• Support assigned projects and comply with ABF policies, including SHERQ, Competition Law, and Anti-Bribery guidelines.

Requirements:

• Grade 12 Certificate.
• Technician Certificate in Metal Fabrication or Welding.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a heavy industry environment preferred.
• Trainers qualification and sugar industry experience are advantages.
• Strong knowledge of welding and cutting processes, equipment operation, and blueprint reading.
• Physical ability to perform extended standing and various physical activities safely.
• Excellent communication, time management, and organisational skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team leader.
• Qualifications must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).

Engineering Quality Controller – Refinery and Packing Station This role also reports to the Reliability Engineer and focuses on quality control within the refinery and packing station, ensuring maintenance activities meet required standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee quality control for refinery and packing station maintenance operations.
• Supervise mechanical equipment inspections, wear analysis, and reliability improvements.
• Manage documentation as per the Quality Control Management Plan.
• Report issues to relevant engineering and quality control managers.
• Coordinate effectively with stakeholders and plant owners.
• Train and test artisans during the off crop period.
• Create maintenance procedures where current documentation is insufficient.
• Assist with projects and ensure compliance with ABF procedures and policies.

Requirements:

• Grade 12 Certificate.
• Technician Certificate in Mechanical Fitting.
• Preferably 5+ years post-qualification experience in heavy industry.
• Workshop Technology and Sugar Technology knowledge are advantages.
• Experience maintaining gearboxes, pumps, and conveying equipment, ideally at a supervisory level.
• Physical capability for extended standing and various safe physical activities.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as organisational abilities.
• Ability to lead and collaborate within a team environment.
• Qualifications must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
• Contract Details and Application Process The off crop maintenance contracts last up to four months.
• The Refinery and Packing Station role offers a flat rate contract and may require weekend or additional weekday hours.
