About Conservation South Luangwa and the Role Since 2003, CSL has collaborated with DNPW to protect wildlife and habitats across South Luangwa National Park and surrounding Game Management Areas.
The Data Manager will report to the Head of Data and Technology and serve as a vital member of the Middle Management Team. This full-time position offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience.
The primary objective of this role is to enhance the collection, quality assurance, analysis, and utilization of data to support CSL and DNPW’s law enforcement and human-wildlife conflict (HWC) operations. The successful candidate will coordinate the SMART data system and related digital platforms, ensuring accurate, timely, and secure data handling to inform operational planning and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities for Data Manager Jobs in Mfuwe Zambia Develop, maintain, and coordinate robust data systems supporting CSL and DNPW law enforcement and HWC activities. Manage the collection, cleaning, verification, and secure storage of SMART and other field data.
Conduct patrol debriefings and collaborate closely with field teams to ensure data completeness and accuracy. Maintain organized databases and digital records with appropriate backup and archiving procedures.
Administer SMART Mobile devices and other digital data-collection equipment, ensuring operational readiness. Analyze conservation and law enforcement data using Excel, GIS, and other analytical tools to identify trends and inform management.
Produce clear visualizations including tables, charts, dashboards, and maps to support reporting and operational planning. Provide training, technical support, and capacity building for CSL and DNPW staff on data systems and digital tools.
Conduct field visits to remote locations for training, equipment maintenance, and data verification. Ensure sensitive information is handled securely and confidentially in line with organizational policies.
Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Information Systems, Data Science, Computer Science, or related disciplines. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel including formulas, charts, and dashboards.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and general IT systems. Experience in data management, analysis, quality assurance, and monitoring & evaluation (M&E).
Familiarity with SMART, GIS, GPS, and digital data-collection systems is highly desirable. Knowledge of QGIS, ArcGIS, Google Earth, Kobo Toolbox, and analytical tools such as Power BI, R, Python, or SQL is advantageous.
Experience working with government agencies, conservation organizations, or field teams is preferred. Strong report writing and presentation skills.
Willingness and ability to travel regularly to remote field locations and work under challenging conditions. A valid manual driver’s license and passport are advantageous.
