Chalimbana University invites applications for Chief Librarian. The role reports to the Vice-Chancellor and provides strategic leadership for University Library and Information Services supporting teaching, learning, research, consultancy, innovation and community service.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead development and transformation of the University Library in line with the strategic plan
• Develop and review library policies, procedures, plans and service standards
• Oversee acquisition, organisation, preservation and use of print, electronic and digital resources
• Lead digital library services, e-library systems, repositories, library websites and emerging technologies
• Promote research support, scholarly communication, publication support, information literacy, open access and quality academic resources
• Prepare and manage the library budget and mobilise grants, partnerships and support
• Supervise staff, enforce discipline, manage performance and identify training needs
• Manage records, infrastructure, ICT systems, electronic assets and learning spaces
• Coordinate outreach, user education and publicity programmes
• Monitor and report on library performance and strategic progress
• Advise University Management on library development, knowledge management and digital transformation
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Grade 12 Certificate with at least five credits including English
• Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science, Library and Information Systems or equivalent
• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, Information Systems, Information/Knowledge Management or related field
• PhD in a relevant field is an advantage
• At least eight years’ relevant post-qualification experience in an academic or research library, including four years at management level
• Experience in strategic planning, policy development, digital library services, repositories, research support and academic-resource management
• Research, publication, consultancy or professional contribution is an advantage
• Membership of the Library and Information Association of Zambia or another recognised professional body
TERMS
Three-year performance-based contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and operational requirements.
