Our client is a well-established engineering company delivering innovative solutions across the mining, industrial, and materials handling sectors. They are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with expertise in Bulk Materials Handling (BMH) and Conveyor Systems to join their engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer to work on the design and execution of large-scale materials handling projects from concept through commissioning.
The Opportunity
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, analysis, and optimisation of conveyor systems and bulk materials handling equipment. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will develop reliable, efficient, and cost-effective engineering solutions that meet client specifications and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design
Design belt conveyor systems for mining and industrial applications.
Develop layouts and detailed designs for bulk materials handling facilities.
Design transfer chutes, bins, hoppers, feeders, stackers, reclaimers, and associated equipment.
Perform conveyor calculations and equipment sizing.
Prepare engineering calculations, design reports, and technical specifications.
Develop 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
Project Engineering
Participate in concept, feasibility, basic, and detailed engineering phases.
Ensure designs comply with client specifications, applicable standards, and project requirements.
Coordinate engineering activities with civil, structural, electrical, and process disciplines.
Support project planning, procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning activities.
Technical Support
Provide engineering support during manufacturing and site installation.
Assist with technical queries and resolve design-related issues.
Conduct design reviews and implement engineering improvements.
Support commissioning and performance testing of conveyor systems.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
Liaise with clients, suppliers, and contractors throughout project execution.
Participate in technical meetings and design reviews.
Prepare technical proposals and support tender submissions when required.
Continuous Improvement
Promote engineering best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
Stay current with developments in conveyor technology, bulk materials handling, and mining equipment.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Registration with ECSA (Professional Engineer or Candidate Engineer) will be advantageous.
Experience
5+ years' experience in mechanical design within the mining, bulk materials handling, or heavy industrial sector.
Proven experience designing conveyor systems and bulk materials handling equipment.
Experience in multidisciplinary engineering projects.
Exposure to EPC, EPCM, or consulting engineering environments will be advantageous.
