Introduction

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced personnel to fill the position of Agronomist/Horticulturist for Rainbow Tourism Group. The successful candidate will be based at Montclair Resort and Conference within the Maintenance Department.

The position reports to the Estates Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement strategies for the maintenance and enhancement of the hotel’s gardens, landscapes, and grounds to ensure an attractive and welcoming environment for guests.
Plan, manage, and supervise all horticultural and agronomic activities, including flower gardens, lawns, ornamental plants, trees, and landscaped areas.
Manage the hotel’s crop production fields, ensuring the efficient cultivation of vegetables, fruits, herbs, and other produce required to support hotel operations.
Establish and oversee nursery operations, including propagation, seedling production, plant care, and replenishment of ornamental and crop plants.

Prepare and implement seasonal planting programmes and crop calendars.
Monitor soil health, irrigation systems, fertilisation schedules, and implement sustainable agricultural and horticultural practices.
Identify, prevent, and control pests, diseases, and weeds affecting gardens, nursery stock, and crop fields.
Ensure proper utilisation and maintenance of gardening and agricultural equipment and machinery.
Develop and implement landscape improvement initiatives to enhance the aesthetic appeal and environmental sustainability of the resort.
Supervise and train gardening and grounds staff, identifying skills gaps and recommending appropriate training interventions.
Prepare budgets, work plans, and periodic reports relating to horticultural and agricultural activities.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards in all gardening and farming operations.

Job Specifications

The ideal candidate should possess the following:

A Diploma or Degree in Agriculture,or an equivalent qualification.
At least 2 years’ relevant experience.
Fluent in written and spoken English.
Good business acumen.
